The best way to gain you kid’s respect is to give it to them in the way they would like you to give it. Very often I find that I thought I was giving respect but my teen responded in a surprising way—upsetting to us both. I don’t want that. It would help if I knew what works. This article is a guide which will make you and me more aware of what works when we communicate with our child.
Picture 2 moments of your parenting behavior—one good, one bad--for each of the 6 points. Choose one item you will improve today.
Use the same idea as stop/drop/roll for a fire drill. When you have an interaction with your teen, stop/think/choose before you fall into your regular pattern of behaving.
