Sometimes I find myself lecturing my kids, or scolding them, or getting angry and thinking that “this time I am going to get my point across so it sticks!” The heavy approach usually closes down my kids and they resist more than they listen. Parenting without fun is a drag; what’s more--it doesn’t get results. We parents have to lighten up to be effective and enjoy life. Parenting is so huge and overwhelming that you will never be able to go through a week and not make lots of mistakes and feel frustrated. Use this video to look at yourself and laugh. Which of the lines in this song have you shouted at your kid? We all do. At the end of this videoclip see how the audience stand up and cheers that mom. Imagine they are standing up to cheer you. Remember that your kid is in that audience, cheering you. Your whole family and everyone you know is in that audience, cheering you. Give yourself a big hug and laugh.

Give yourself a massive pat on the back for all the effort you invest in parenting. Take a quick look at your creative side and appreciate yourself for bringing that to your own family, and also check to see if there is one "unnecessary or mean comment" that you regularly use with your teenager that you could try to limit your usage.
